Newsletter Week of September 21
Ms. Jazmin & Ms. Marion
Week of September 21, 2015
A Note from Ms. Jazmin:
Thank you for coming in for parent/teacher conferences! It was a pleasure to discuss your children with you!
Keep and eye out on the blog for two new entries that will have login information on the use of Sumdog,a very fun and effective online math program, and Zing! an ebook site where your child will have access to books on their reading level. One of my favorite features on Zing! is that students can look up definitions to words in a "dictionary" while they are reading. These sites will not be used in the classroom, but students are more than welcome to use these resources at home.
We have our field trips planned for the entire year! Dates are posted below. Please pay close attention to which grade level and date (your child) is going on as we had to split things up according to available programs for the grade level of your child. All permission slips will be sent home today. Please send them in all together along with exact change of $9.25, completely filled out and signed by parents and student. If by chance permission slips are misplaced, please find a blank form on our blog in an earlier entry that should be printed and sent in. Due to limited resources, I can only send one copy of each permission slip. Thank you for understanding.
In addition to those field trips, our class will be attending a live virtual field trip in the classroom October 15, called The Good Egg Project. It will be a virtual tour of Creighton Brothers Farms as interdependent relationships are explored between organisms in an ecosystem and how every decision affects all aspects of the farm.
Field Trips:
Massie-Tuesday October 27, 2015 1st and 2nd
Oatland Island-Wednesday March 30, 2015 Entire
Class

September 22, 2015
Dear Families,
The Charles Ellis Montessori PTA knows that a strong partnership among our families, school leaders, and community at-large is important for the success of our students and school. That’s why we are participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which celebrates partnerships between PTA and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students.
As a National PTA School of Excellence, families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. We feel Charles Ellis Montessori Academy and the Charles Ellis Montessori PTA can achieve that together – and the result will be national, state and community-wide visibility for the positive impact we are making together at Charles Ellis.
We need your help! As part of the process, National PTA requests feedback from families at two points in the school year – the beginning and end. Your feedback in the beginning of the program will help to generate a customized Roadmap to Excellence, which will provide specific recommendations for improving our family-school partnership and achieving excellence.
Please take 5-10 minutes to reflect on your experience at this school and complete the included survey. You should select the option that most accurately expresses how you feel about your experience. This survey is completely anonymous. Please complete the online survey no later than October 16, 2015, as the survey will close on this date at 5:00 p.m. TAKE SURVEY
Does this sound like a PTA program you’d really like to help with? Join us! Contact Gloria (gloria.ellispta@gmail.com) or St.Claire (stclaire.ellispta@gmail.com) to learn more!
Sincerely,
Gloria Rigsbee Tanya Melville

Upcoming HEALTHY snack weeks for 26 students: We do have a low level peanut allergy in the classroom, so we do prefer peanut free snacks so that the student may also participate in snack with the class.
Some suggestions for snack are: precut fruit (apples, grapes, bananas cut in half, oranges, etc.), precut vegetables with hummus for dipping, cheese and crackers, granola bars or chewies, trail mix, applesauce, hummus and crackers, yogurt or Gogurt, graham crackers… The purpose of snack is to provide a nutritious energy booster when the students need it. Please keep in mind the nutritional value when choosing a snack.

Newsletter September 14
Ms. Jazmin & Ms. Marion
Week of September 14, 2015
A Note from Ms. Jazmin:
I am looking forward to meeting with each of you during our parent/teacher conferences next week! Some of the topics we will be discussing are test scores, work ethic and quality in the classroom, and grace and courtesy. The first parent/teacher conferences serve as a great opportunity to share any concerns or ask any questions that may have come up since the start of school.
Please familiarize yourselves with the Charles Ellis Montessori Academy Family Handbook that is posted in an earlier post from this week. There is a compact that will be signed at conferences next week, that goes along with the handbook.
There is another opportunity for environmental stewardship that has become available! I posted the details in an earlier entry this week. We are accepting any brand and/or type of marker that is ready to be thrown out. Our PTA is sending them in to Crayola for recycling. Just send them in with your child!
Please bring the family for the Erdkinder (middle school) Sidewalks Arts Festival being held at our school on Friday September 30, 2015! Details are in an earlier post. All proceeds go back to the Erdkinder for field trips.
Also, please follow this link to the survey to have your voice heard in regards to the district's Bus Consolidation Plan for specialty schools. The plan was discussed and questions answered by officials at the PTA meeting last evening. I believe the survey closes today!

Newsletter September 7
Ms. Jazmin & Ms. Marion
Week of September 7, 2015
A Note from Ms. Jazmin:
As we continue on our path towards an authentic Montessori experience and continue to be enlightened throughout our Montessori training and certification, the Lower Elementary classrooms are aligning with the philosophy that Dr. Maria Montessori held towards homework. Dr. Montessori believed that if we do not dictate the work of the child in the class, then it does not make sense to dictate the work they choose at home. We encourage activities which constructively direct a child's pursuits, nurtures their interests, and builds family bonds such as; washing dishes, watering plants, feeding pets, clearing the table, putting their clothes away, cooking with an adult, constructing and building, art/craft projects, family game night, etc. With that idea in mind I also want to offer my assistance by providing academic activities and suggestions that you and your child may choose to work on if a skill specific need arises. Also, if you would like for me to send the style of homework sheets that I have been sending, on a regular basis for your child, please let me know via email. In addition, I do suggest that all students continue to read nightly for 20-30 minutes and of course Moby Max is always available via the internet. If you do wish to have something sent home the child is not expected to turn it in to me unless of course they have a question about something.
Also, conferences are just around the corner! They will be held the week of September 21. Be on the lookout for the Sign Up Genius link via email.

TEDx Talk- Montessori
This TEDx Talk is a small window into how we try to find intrinsic motivation in our students. This translates outside of the classroom as well and can flow into the home environment if the family is open. I recommend this video/talk to parents wanting to understand a little more of what and why we do what we do with your children.
