Ms. Jazmin's Class Has Talent
Because our school is not holding a talent show or showcase event this year and the class has shown a deep interest in being allowed the opportunity to showcase their talents, I have decided to hold our very own Ms. Jazmin's Class Has Talent event as one of our end of year, winding down, events.
Our students will showcase their talents on the same day as our end of year ice cream party *sponsored by Leopold's*, May 19th, the second to last day of school.
They will be turning in proposals to me with details of the performance so I can be sure that it is appropriate for a school audience.
Please allow students to practice their talents at home and bring in costumes, instruments, etc. Families are welcome to come and watch!

A Note from Ms. Jazmin:
I have posted several entries on the blog over the last week or so that contain important information. Please peruse the entries.
I am still in search of a canopy tent like this:
to help shield our class from the sun during lunch and hydration breaks at Field Day. Please read this entry for more information on Field Day: Field Day Information Also, Field day t-shirt forms went home last week. The shirts are $10. Please be sure to turn the money in along with the form filled out with size etc. Students do not have to have a Field Day shirt to participate! However I do ask that they wear a neon green t-shirt so they are easy to spot while the entire school is out at Field Day.
Our third year students have been GMAS testing this week, and thankfully we only have two more days next week! Monday is Science and Tuesday is Social Studies. Please encourage your child to continue to do their best. It is very difficult for students to continue full tilt the second week, but it is important that they give equal effort the last two days. Every year I try to think of something fun for the entire class to do when testing is finished, and since we have an abundance of bananas left from the testing snack donations and an amazing classroom kitchen due to your generous Donors Choose donations, it looks like we will be making banana bread muffins in the class! Don't tell them, as it is a surprise for them.
Speaking of Donors Choose... remember that large project I was talking about posting? Well, it is posted and live on Donors Choose, but I haven't shared it yet as I am waiting to see if it qualifies for a match/grant offer that Tom's of Maine just started offering. Here is an excerpt from the offer:If your project qualifies, you'll see a one-to-one (half off) match offer appear on your project, while funding lasts. In order to qualify for the grant it had to be a project that was based around environmental science. The entire project consists of mostly Waseca biome materials that have to do with the study of biomes such as the temperate forest, desert, mountain, grasslands, wetlands, tropical forest, and the polar region. The study includes the animals and the people of these biomes in each continent. I also added the language series. We already have the reading program. All of these materials work in conjunction with each other, furthering reading, language, science and and social studies skills. I am asking that in lieu of end of year gifts or teacher appreciation gifts, although they are greatly appreciated, that you consider making a donation towards this project that will serve your children and future children for many years to come as these materials are high quality as are most Montessori materials, hence the expense. Even if we don't get the match offer, I am hoping to still get this project funded with your generous donations. Feel free to share this post and/or link with family and friends via social media etc. You would be surprised at how many people are willing to help children and public education when they can. Also, please keep in mind that these donations are also great tax write offs! If we get the grant, all we have to raise is $815, instead of $1,631.

Muffins with Moms is in three weeks. Thank you for signing up for items! We will have everything we need! Please try to send in items the day before so that everything can be set up upon your arrival. We are looking forwards to this special day!

Upcoming HEALTHY snack weeks for 26 students: We do have a low level peanut allergy in the classroom, so we prefer peanut free snacks so that the student may also participate in snack with the class.
Some suggestions for snack are: precut fruit (apples, grapes, bananas cut in half, oranges, etc.), precut vegetables with hummus for dipping, cheese and crackers, granola bars or chewies, trail mix, applesauce, hummus and crackers, yogurt or Gogurt, graham crackers… The purpose of snack is to provide a nutritious energy booster when the students need it. Please keep in mind the nutritional value when choosing a snack.

Students are also working on their own research projects and presentations in both cultural and cosmic education that also align with the Common Core Curriculum. If they wish to extend these projects to their home environment, they are more than welcome to and encouraged.
